In fact the demand is so strong that thousands are imported from Florida and distributed through large retailers. The Syagrus romanzoffiana (also called Cocos plumosa) is perfect for our weather extremes. It takes the cold to 22 degrees, loves full sun, survives drought and can withstand dry hot winds. They look best when planted in well draining soil and fed regularly. Fronds yellow easily when planted in poor soil and nutrients are not available.

Field grown Queen Palms usually offer the best value when purchasing larger trees. Trees simply grow better in the ground, especially in fertile soil. Spring and summer are ideal times to dig and plant field grown Queens. The roots that are cut regenerate very quickly and growth is not greatly affected.
